Yamaha Corporation Launches International Women's Day Campaign Focusing on Music Education

Yamaha Corporation (hereinafter referred to as "Yamaha") actively endorses the vision of the Unstereotype Alliance* led by UN Women, based on Yamaha's idea of contributing to the accomplishment of SDGs throughout its business. Yamaha has been a member of the Japan National Chapter since December 2020.

As part of its initiative, to mark International Women's Day on March 8, 2023, the Yamaha Group has launched "Women Who Make Waves 2023," an interview project on its website to introduce the voices of women engaged in music education activities worldwide. This project is aligned with the United Nation's theme for this year of "DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality." It is also aligned with the priority theme of the 67th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW-67) "Innovation and technological change, and education in the digital age for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls." The goal is to highlight activities and challenges of female educators and artists, shedding light on the various issues they face and sharing their messages with the next generation.

This interview series features 34 female educators and artists from around 20 countries and regions who share their perspectives on music and education, their ideas on diversity, and their messages for the women and girls who will lead the next generation. One of these inspiring women, Dr. Nadia Dandachi is a Saudi-born, Germany-based pianist, educator, and physician, who is involved in new forms of music education and promotion using social media. The Yamaha Group contributes to an inclusive music industry and the development of a vibrant and sustainable music culture by encouraging the diverse activities of these female educators and artists and increasing their opportunities. By creating opportunities for women from diverse backgrounds to amplify their voices and to send a message of respect for diversity, Yamaha also aims to eliminate gender and identity stereotypes in the music industry.

Together with the Unstereotype Alliance, the Yamaha Group will continue to empower all women and girls to express their individuality, sensitivity and creativity, and to Make Waves with sound and music regardless of any obstacles.
